Jayaram Subramaniam, popularly known as Jayaram is a well known film actor and noted chenda percussionist in Kerala, South India. Born into a Brahmin family at Perumbavoor, Central Kerala, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from Sri Sankara College, Kaladi. His innate sense of mimicking multiple personalities led him to join Kalabhavan, a well known professional mimicry troupe. At Kalabhavan he performed more than thousand stage shows, all quite successful. It was through Jayaram that mimicry gained momentum in the visual media. The wide acceptance and encouragement from various quarters encouraged him to accept art as his profession.
Jayaram made his debut in Malayalam film industry in the year 1988. His talent was spotted by the renowned, veteran Malayalam film director Shri. P.Padmarajan who gave him the launching pad through his film ‘Aparan’. Shri. P.Padmarajan later became his mentor in Jayaram’s film career till the former’s death in January 1991. |
